Dr Tony McGread

Roles: Medical Director of OHRD Ltd and Consultant Occupational Physician

Tony is a Consultant Occupational Health Physician, Member of Faculty of Occupational Medicine, UK and Fellow of Faculty of Occupational Medicine, Ireland has worked in occupational health since 1993 and prior to this, 8 years as a general practitioner. Over these years he has been Senior Medical Adviser to Belfast City Council (BCC) and Belfast Education and Library Board for 6 years, Consultant for Capita Health Solutions in NI managing a large clinical team providing services to MoD, PSNI, Inland Revenue, Court Services and British Telecom for 9 years, before creating OHRD Ltd 8 years ago. He has been involved in the development and delivery of comprehensive OH Services over his extensive career too numerous to mention.

Dr McGread is clinical trainer of occupational health doctors and nurses, and past Chair of the NI Group of Society of Occupational Medicine. He is currently a Board member of the Faculty of Occupational Medicine in Dublin and Committee Member of Association of Railway Occupational Physicians (ARIOPS). He has wide occupational health experience in most industries including Health (NHS Trusts) the Education sector (WELB, SELB, University of Ulster), Logistics (Royal Mail) Construction (Lagan Ferrovial), Industry (Ford Motor) and Transport inc Railways (BUPA. Medicentres) Security (MoD, PSNI), Pensions (PSCPS, Local Government, NHS and Teachers Superannuation and NILGOSC) and many others. He has overseen OHRD as the only independent OH provider with the Industry Specific Best Practice award, SEQOHS.

Professor Ken Addley

Job title: Consultant Occupational Health Physician
Relevant qualifications: OBE MB BCh (QUB 1979 MD FRCPI FFOM CertCBT
Role: Consultant Occupational Physician

Ken is a widely experienced Consultant Occupational Physician in both the private and public sectors. He is specialist trained in occupational medicine having joined in the speciality in 1991. This includes 21 years as Director of the SEQOHS accredited and award winning NI Civil Service (NICS) occupational health service where he led the organisation to achieve Steps to Excellence Gold Award; Irish News Workplace & Employment Award in Work-life, Health & Wellbeing category; and, NICS Employee Engagement Award. He has been Dean of the Faculty of Occupational Medicine of the Royal College of Physicians of Ireland and Chair of the NI group of the Society of Occupational Medicine. He is currently a Visiting Professor in the Department of Leadership and Management at the Ulster Business School. He has published books, articles and papers on occupational health topics and is Research Champion in the Faculty of Occupational Medicine. In 2015, Professor Addley was awarded an OBE in the Queen’s Birthday Honours for services to occupational health. His interests cover all aspects of occupational health including managing attendance, mental health issues in the workplace, organisational and employee engagement and wellbeing. Within the NICS he managed a large team of clinicians and paramedical staff including physiotherapy and occupational therapy. NICS employed over 25,000 staff where Prof Addley oversaw the provision of comprehensive OH services to the organisation as well as providing medical advice to DVLA, NI and Teachers and NHS pension schemes. He works 2 days per week as a Consultant Occupational Physician with OHRD.

Dr Winnie Maguire

Job title: Occupational Health Physician
Relevant qualifications: MB BCh AFOM DFM MSc Role: Occupational Physician

Winnie is a Occupational Health Physician with experience in occupational health starting from 1991. Also a part time forensic medical officer and medical assessor with the Medical Referee Service. She is an Associate in the Faculty of Occupational Medicine, UK. Dr Maguire has excellent experience in many industries including Local Authority (Belfast City Council) Government (Inland Revenue, NI Court Service) Telecommunications (BT) Education (SELB, NWRC, NRC) Security (PSNI) and Pensions (NHS, Teacher and Police Superannuation Schemes, NILGOSC). She has worked with Dr McGread at Capita Health Solutions and now works 1 to 2 days per week with him on behalf of OHRD. Clinical experience includes pre-employment and sickness absence assessments, Injury at Work assessments, ill health retirement, health surveillance (Audiometry / HAVS / Spirometry / Communicable diseases) and Health promotion.

Dr Debbie Turner

Job title: Accredited Specialist / Consultant OH Physician

Role: Consultant Occupational Physician

Debbie is a Consultant Occupational Health Physician having worked in occupational health since 1996 and prior to that 8 years in general practice. Member of the Faculty of Occupational Medicine, UK. Dr Turner is a clinical trainer of occupational health nurses. She is a past secretary, treasurer and Chair of the of NI Group of Society of Occupational Medicine. She has wide occupational health experience in many industries including employers such as Local Government (CSA, Housing Executive, NIAST) Security (PSNI) Health (Belfast and Northern Health Trusts) Finance (First Trust) Education (SELB, WELB, NRC, NWRC) Construction (Lagan Ferrovial) Pension (NHS, Teacher and Police Superannuation Schemes Police, NILGOSC).

Clinical experience in all aspects of occupational health including pre-employment and sickness absence assessments, ill health retirement, Injury at Work assessments, health surveillance (Audiometry / HAVS / Spirometry / Communicable diseases), health promotion and screening and Occupational health related policy development.

Dr Rodney Gamble

Rodney is a Consultant Occupational Health Physician, Member of Faculty of Occupational Medicine, UK having started in occupational health in 1993 and prior to this, 8 years as a general practitioner. Over his 23 years in OH he has been Senior Medical adviser to Dupont Europe based at Maydown, Londonderry. Dupont were an innovative employer at the forefront of Occupational Health and Safety. Dr Gamble managed an on-site team of doctors, nurses and physiotherapist. He worked very closely with Safety, Unions and HR and delivered a comprehensive OH strategy to all employees. He now works 4 days per week as the Consultant in OH with Western Trust at Altnagalvin Hospital and works part time with OHRD in the North West at the NW Independent Clinic and on site at NUU Magee campus. He is a past Chair of the NI Group of Society of Occupational Medicine. He is currently a Board member of the Faculty of Occupational Medicine in London and Regional Speciality Advisor (RSA) overseeing the training of doctors in OH in NI.

Occupational Health Nurses

Bernie McGurk

Job title: Occupational Health Nurse Advisor
Relevant qualifications: RNA BSc CPNH(OH) NMC 73H0049N Role: Lead Occupational Health Nurse

Bernie is an Occupational Health Nurse since 1991. She completed the Degree Course in Occupational Health Nursing. Very wide experience in occupational health including Industry (Shorts Bros, Bombardier) Health (Belfast Health Trust) Security (PSNI) and Education (New University of Ulster) Mrs McGurk was the lead OHNA at NUU in Jordanstown and Belfast Campuses for the last 10 years. She undertook pre-employments and sickness absence assessments and advised on ill health retirement workplace assessments. She undertook a full review of health surveillance needs for staff and Post graduate students and delivered a comprehensive programme to these individuals e.g. Audiometry, Skin, HAVS and Spirometry). Over the last few years she was fundamental in the review of the requirements for vaccinations for students (and staff) entering healthcare and related professions. She has been at the forefront of relevant policy development including that for health promotion and interest and experience in health promotion, screening and workplace counselling. She works 2 days per week with OHRD both a Princes House and on site with clients. Bernie works closly with HR, Welfare and safety and to deliver Pre-Employment Assessments, all types of Independent Medical Assessment, e.g. Periodic assessments (drivers, Fork lift truck), Work Performance Assessments or Attendance Management and Ill Health Retirement. She delivers on site Health Surveillance programmes e.g. respiratory, skin and hearing for staff and undertakes workplace assessments and home visits. She also undertakes Health promotion campaigns and works closely with charities e.g. Addiction NI, AWARE, RNIB and Action on Hearing, Chest Heart and Stroke and others. She also assists in Formulation of new polices, and procedures and she assists Dr McGread / Prof Addley in the creation of such documents.

Margaret Goodwin

Margaret is a Occupational Health Nurse since 1996 with experience in industry in NI and has now worked in the Food Industry for many years. Mrs Goodwin undertakes pre-employments and sickness absence assessments and workplace assessments. She is very experienced in workplace risk assessments and has helped in the development of ergonomic assessment tools for use in the food processing industry here in NI. This helps prevent injury at work but also assist in return to work/rehab programmes. She also undertakes health surveillance for staff in particular Audiometry, Skin, and Spirometry. She also advises on the need for vaccinations in the work place e.g. TB and others. As an experienced OHNA she works with HR, Welfare and Safety to deliver Pre-Employment Assessments, all types of Independent Medical Assessment, e.g. Periodic assessments (Fork lift truck, Drivers), Work Performance Assessments or Attendance Management and Ill Health Retirement. She delivers on site Health Surveillance programmes e.g. respiratory, skin and hearing for staff. She undertakes workplace Assessments and home visits. She undertakes Health promotion campaigns to staff and works closely with charities e.g. Addiction NI, AWARE, RNIB and Action on Hearing, Chest Heart and Stroke and others.

Maureen Mahoney

Job title: Occupational Health Nurse Advisor Relevant qualifications: RNA HE Dip Adult Nursing Role: Occupational Health Nurse

Maureen is an Occupational Health Nurse from 2007 with experience in occupational health experience in industry in Ireland and GB. Prior to that she undertake general adult nursing. She undertakes pre-employments and sickness absence assessments and workplace assessments. She has particular expertise in health promotion, delivering these services to a number of public and private sector organisations. She also undertakes health surveillance for staff, in particular Audiometry, Skin, and Spirometry. Maureen roles includes undertaking Pre-Employment Assessments, all types of Independent Medical Assessment, e.g. Periodic assessments (Fork lift truck, drivers), Work Performance Assessments or Attendance Management and Ill Health Retirement. She undertakes workplace assessments and home visits. She also undertakes Health promotion activities e.g. Vision, Blood pressure, Cholesterol and Diabetic checks for our clients. She also undertaking health surveillance e.g. audiometry, lung function, skin and vaccinations on site at our HQ. She has excellent communication skills and a very valued team member.

Administration Team

Gayle Currie

Job title: Administration Manager Role: Administration Lead

Gayle has worked in Occupational Health from year 2000. She has led the setup of two administration departments over this time; NI Regional OH department for Capita Health Solutions and OHRD Ltd. As a result, she has been fundamental in the creation of internal policy and procedure, training of administration and clinical colleagues in relevant procedures. She also works very closely with OHRD clients including day to day telephone and email support and Contract Meetings. She has an expert knowledge of clinical process requirements e.g. health surveillance and health promotion. She also works closely with our IT provider and has been central to the development of the OHRD IT system, Aura. Mrs Currie has expert operational knowledge and experience related to most industries who utilises OH services. She was the admin lead for our SEQOHS accreditation and is also a qualified First Aider, Fire Officer and a qualified audiometric technician.

Ms Alyson McAteer

Job title: Administrator
Role under the proposed contract: Administrator

Alyson is a highly Experienced administrator with 10 years’ experience. She has worked full time with OHRD from 2012. She also works very closely with OHRD clients including day to day telephone and email support and on occasion attends Contract Meetings. She has excellent communication skills with patients and clients and excellent IT skills. She is very knowledgeable of clinical process requirements e.g. health surveillance and health promotion. She has full understanding of OH needs in a variety of industries including transport, legal and health sector. Having assisted SEQOHS accreditation process she has extensive knowledge of our procedures delivering excellence to our clients and staff. Ms McAteer is also a qualified First Aider and Fire Officer.

Ms Catherine Ewings

Job title: Administator/Operations Director Role: Administrator

Catherine has extensive management experience and helps oversee policy development, client liaison and financial control.
